Simon Hurley New Solar Paste Release

Before we jump into today’s project, I wanted to let you know that I sometimes use affiliate links to share my favorite products. Don’t worry, these links won’t cost you a dime – they’re just little crafty helpers behind the scenes that help support me if you use them to make a purchase! Let’s dive into today’s creative journey together!

Hello friends! Scrapbook.com has sent me the brand new Solar Paste from Simon Hurley for Ranger Ink, and I had a chance to play around with them and share some projects with you! The Solar Pastes are really cool white pastes that have a pearlescent color-shifting quality to them, especially when applied to white paper! HOWEVER, when you use them on a dark paper, their colors become REALLY vibrant!

To start the Solar Paste collection, Simon and Ranger Ink have started the release with 6 new colors:

These colors really give you the full rainbow you need to get started!

I have 2 swatches below to show you these new Solar Paste colors in action!

If you look closely at the white swatch, you can see that color shifting property that I talked about earlier! For example, that Beluga color on the black paper is definitely a true blue. But when applied to the white cardstock, it almost looks yellow! Just so fun!

I went ahead and created 5 new projects, showing off different techniques that you can use with the new Solar Pastes. I am so excited to share them with you!

Products Used:
Solar Paste by Simon Hurley: Cross My Heart, Golden Hour & Beluga
Starburst Night Sky Stencil
Playful Smooth Cardstock
Joyful Alphabet with Numbers Die Set
Black Soot Distress Ink
Clear Glitter Enamel Dots
UltraBond Adhesive
Dotted Adhesive Roller
Craft Scraper

This first card was super fun to create because I got to apply 3 different Solar Pastes at the same time using the Craft Scraper! I built up my Starburst Layered Background using Black Soot Distress Ink for the bursts, and then the Solar Pastes for the stars! I was able to drag my scraper across my panel multiple times and get a great application!

As you can see, the Solar Pastes blend extremely well together, and pop on that darker cardstock!

Royal Flush Solar Paste by Simon Hurley
Holographic Mirror Paper Pack
Playful Smooth Paper Pack
Hello A2 Plate Die Set
Sunburst A2 Plate Cover Die
Soft Lilac Pearl Pops of Color
Micro Dots Embossing Folder
UltraBond Adhesive
Dotted Adhesive Roller

My 2nd card used only the Royal Flush Solar Paste, but I wanted to find a fun way to make this card really pop. Burst dies and stencils are my absolute favorite, as the completely pull your eye towards a center focal point, and I thought it would be cool to layer the Sunburst A2 Plate Cover Die on top of some iridescent Holographic Mirror Paper that I dry embossed with the Micro Dots Embossing Folder!

To get my Royal Flush hello die cut, I went ahead and used my finger to spread the Solar Paste on top of black paper included in the Playful Smooth Paper Pack. Once dry, I was able to die cut it with the Hello A2 Plate Die Set and then trim it down for my card! I think this is a really fun technique to create your own pearlescent paper to use for your project! And I HIGHLY recommend trying it on darker papers to get a very vibrant application of the Solar Pastes!

For my 3rd card featuring the new Solar Pastes, I decided to make an all-blue inspired project and show how the Beluga Solar Paste looks on lighter cardstock! As you can see, when I use it on the light blue paper included in the Playful Smooth Paper Pack, it retains that white pearlescent quality quite well, and really pops when mixed in with all the other colors going on with this card!

Another thing that I love with the Solar Paste is how well the pearlescent quality lends itself to be used with other iridescent products! As you can see, I used the iridescent paper from the Holographic Mirror Paper Pack to highlight my sentiment strip, and it coordinates so well with the use of that Beluga Solar Paste!

For my 4th project, I wanted to make something with some rainbow-inspiration using all of the new Solar Paste colors! To create this rainbow effect, I used my Craft Scraper on the black paper included in the Playful Paper Pack and scraped the pastes fairly thin across my card panel. By scraping it thinly, it heavily reduced the white pearlescence of the Solar Paste and really allowed the colors to shine, along with pulling some of the black paper through as well because the paste was so thin!

Musical Enamel Dots
Many Hearts Embossing Folder

For my final card using the new Solar Pastes, I wanted to show how, once the Solar Paste has dried on paper, you can actually dry emboss it to give it some lift and texture! Here, I spread all 6 Solar Pastes with my finger across the black paper from the Playful Smooth Paper Pack! Once dried, I used the Many Hearts Embossing Folder to help create a fun heart background, and also created my own sentiment to put over the background, using the Joyful Alphabet with Numbers Die Set!

I hope these new Solar Paste projects leave you with some crafty inspiration for how you can play with these awesome new products after you add them to your collection!
