Shakin’ Up for the New Year!

Hello and Happy Saturday Everyone! Today I am sharing another project that I created during my Guest Designer Term for Doodles Paper Playground!

Don’t forget, you can use code JUSTIN10 on the Sparkle Blends Etsy Shop to save 10% off your orders of $10 or more!

For today’s card, we are using the Ring in the Year Sparkle Blend for a card that is all sorts of Black & Gold! This blend is so much fun, as it actually has little jingle bells in it, that give an extra surprise when you shake the card!

First, I made my background, which is an A2-sized piece of Gray Cardstock, blended with Black Soot Distress Ink from the top down about half way. I then took the Pink & Main Blizzard Stencil, placed it on top of the panel, and applied a solid layer of Transfer Gel Duo. I set the panel aside to dry and washed off my stencil immediately. I had actually let this dry overnight, just to ensure it dried entirely.

For my images, I colored up the Polly & Pete Carol Stamp Set images by Pink & Main with Copic Markers. I also colored up the snow globe from the Empty Snow Globe Stamp Set too. I fussy cut out Polly & Pete, and used the coordinating dies for the Empty Snow Globe Stamp Set to cut that out.

Note: even if coordinating dies really aren’t your thing, I highly recommend the coordinating dies to the Empty Snow Globe stamp set, especially if you are making a shaker card. There is a general outline die included, along with an inside die that will cut for the perfect shaker window inside your snow globe!

I took acetate and adhered it to my snow globe for a window, and then lined the inner side of the globe with foam tape strips. I set these items aside to dry.

Next, using the Gold Glitter Transfer Foil by Unity & Therm O Web, I ran my card panel through my laminator which had been warming up for a good 30 minutes or so. I removed the foil sheet from my panel and had a glittery gold snowflake background!

To ensure that my shaker bits moved smoothly, and weren’t hitting against the uneven foiled background, I cut out a piece of vellum using the Stitched Arches Dies by Pink & Main. I poured my Ring in the Year Sparkle Blend onto the vellum, removed my foam tape backing, and then adhered my snow globe to my vellum piece.

Note: I did this first, because you really can’t use liquid adhesive on vellum UNLESS you adhere it areas that are covered. Vellum will show “wet spots” of where you applied adhesive, so I applied liquid adhesive directly behind the areas of where my snow globe covered the vellum, and then adhered the panel to my card front.

I heat embossed my sentiment in gold embossing powder onto gray paper, adhered Polly & Pete using foam tape, and then adhered my sentiment using liquid adhesive. I also adhered a few embellishments from the Ring in the Year Sparkle Blend onto my card as well.

And that’s how I pulled this shaker card together!

Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today! I hope I left you with a little holiday inspiration to go out there and make a festive shaker card!
