HBD2U! (Happy Birthday to You!)

Hello and Happy Saturday everyone! Being a Guest Designer for Doodle’s Paper Playground, I am sharing another fun shaker project that I created using one of their newest Sparkle Blends, HBD2U! This is a bold and colorful blend that is intended for all sorts of fun birthday projects! (Please note, affiliate links are used in this blog post)

Today’s card is a shaker card I created where I used a die cut negative of a word die to create my shaker window! Here are the products used:

Doodle’s Paper Playground Products Used:
HBD2U Sparkle Blend
Window Sheets- Acetate

Other Products Used:
Party Animals Stamp Set by Kindred Stamps
Giant Happy Birthday To You Lawn Cut by Lawn Fawn
Distress Inks: Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade & Salty Ocean
Sparkle Silk
Prima Metallic Watercolor Accents
Copic Markers
Blending Cardstock
Foam Tape
iCraft Ultra Bond Permanent Adhesive

I always start with coloring up my images. I chose 3 critters from the Party Animals stamp set, colored them in a palette to match the colors of the bits in the Sparkle Blend, fussy cut them out and set them aside.

For my background, I blended an ombré going from Candied Apple toCarved Pumpkin to Squeezed Lemonade and finishing off with Salty Ocean. I splattered my background with water first, dried it, and then splattered Gold Metallic Watercolor and Sparkle Silk for some extra shimmer.

Using the Happy Birthday To You Die Cut, I placed it in the center of my A2 panel in landscape orientation, and ran it through my die cutting machine. Carefully, I kept track of EVERY bit that got die cut, because, specifically all those little gap pieces. I then adhered acetate to the back of this panel to create my shaker window. Using my Happy Birthday to You word die cut, I put that back into place on top of my acetate window, but DID NOT adhere it. I just want to use it as a guide. Then, using all those little gap die cut pieces that typically get thrown away, I adhered each one of them into place onto the acetate window. Once they were all set and adhered, I removed my word die cut, leaving only those gap pieces behind!

I then began assembling my card, adhering each of the critters into place. For my shaker element, I adhered foam tape on the backside of my main card panel, cut an A2 sized piece of white cardstock, poured the HBD2U Sparkle Blend onto the white cardstock, removed the backing of my foam tape, and carefully placed the shaker window panel on top. I like to use a separate sheet of paper for the back of my shaker, because that way if I am off center, I can just trim the sides off and nobody will ever know!

I finished this card off by taking some of the extra HBD2U Sparkle Blend bits and adhering them to the front of the card to look like confetti!

And that’s today’s card! I hope that this leaves you inspired to try some non-traditional dies to use for your shaker windows, or even just to use a fun new color palette to make a birthday card for a loved one!
