KS August 2020 Release- Strength & Honor

Hello everyone! It’s Kindred Stamps Release week, and I am so excited to be showing off my projects using the new Strength & Honor set (truly a set worth crafting for)!

This 4″ x 8″ set is packed with 4 humans, 1 little dragon, 1 cricket and so many fun sentiments that serve up some major China-vibes!

I made 5 projects to show how fun this set truly is, so let’s get started!

Card Size: A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″)

Bamboo Shoots Stencil
Emerald Gemstone Glitter Gloss (retired)
Winters Evergreen Sparkletz

For my 1st of my Strength & Honor Project, I wanted to create a Bamboo Forest scene using my Warrior Girl, Dragon, Cricket, and the new Bamboo Shoots Stencil. I colored them up with Copic Markers and Set them aside.

For my background, I blended a piece of white cardstock with Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Ink. I then blended the edges with Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink to give some dimension. I placed the Bamboo Shoots Stencil on top of this panel and applied a solid layer of Emerald Gemstone Glitter Gloss (currently retired, however Peridot would be a wonderful substitution).

Justin Tip: When I use the term “solid layer” when referring to any application of a Glitter Gloss (or similar medium), I mean that I make sure it is an even layer of Glitter Gloss applied that covers the entirety of the panel. Please note, your Glitter Gloss doesn’t always need to be solid, as you’ll see with a project below!

I also made the Bamboo Forest Floor by blending Brushed Corduroy and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Inks, and then splattering it with both water and Ink on 3 Twiggy Brown Atelier Ink.

For my sentiment, I blended a strip of paper in Melon Ice Catherine Pooler Ink and stamped “You rule the dynasty” from Strength and Honor. So fun, right?! I then finished this card by adhering a few Winters Evergreen Sparkletz bits.

Card Size: Slimline (3.5″ x 8.5″)

Waves Craft Die
Barefoot Beach Sparkletz

For my 2nd Strength & Honor project, I created a slimline card with a hand drawn scene. I wanted to use the girl from the set in both her dress and her warrior form for this project.

I drew this scene using a pencil first, tracing over it with a Copic Multi-Liner pencil, and then erasing all the pencil marks. I also colored my characters, flowers, and the background using Copic Markers. I did, however, use a Distress Oxide Blend in order to create the water, using Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean & Faded Jeans, which I also blended right over the top of my Warrior Girl. To give the water a rippling look, I went over the Distress Oxide with a White Gel Pen

Justin Tip: Use your existing craft stash to create unintended shapes. For example, I used the Waves Craft Die in this image to create the flowering part of the tree, which I blended with Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink.

I finished off this card using the sentiment “Bloom in Adversity” from Strength & Honor, and stamping it in Party Dress Catherine Pooler Ink, along with adding some Barefoot Beach Sparkletz bits.

Distress Brick Stencil
Sunset Shimmerz

For my 3rd Strength & Honor project, I wanted to make it look like the Sword-wielding Villain had jumped over the Great Wall of China and was ready to attack. I colored him up with Copic Markers and fussy cut him out.

To make my Great Wall of China, I piece of light Gray cardstock, placed the Distress Brick Stencil on top, and blended up Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink on top. I then cut it into a 5.5″ long piece, and used a small square die to cut out the ridges on top. I also made a floor using Ground Espresso & Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide Ink.

For my mountainous background, I used the Mountain Tops Die set by Stamp Anniething and blended my mountain with Aged Mahogany and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Inks. For the sky, I ink-blended Fired Brick, Ripe Persimmon, & Dried Marigold Distress Oxide Inks to make a fiery sunset ombré.

I finished this card off using the Strength & Honor sentiment “You’re hun of a kind” and adhering some Sunset Shimmerz bits!

Waves Craft Die
Dragon Scales Stencil
Ruby Gemstone Glitter Gloss
Sunset Shimmerz

For my 4th project, I wanted to show you all what a “non” solid application of Glitter Gloss looks like. So, I made a card where I deconstructed the colors of the adorably cute and sassy little lizzar… I mean dragon! I colored up the dragon and cricket with Copic Markers, fussy cut them out, and set them aside.

I took a piece of white cardstock, entirely blended it with Coral Cabana Catherine Pooler Ink, and then distressed the edges with Samba Catherine Pooler Ink. I spritzed with water and let the layer dry. Then, I took the Dragon Scales Stencil, laid it on top of the panel, and applied a rough application of the Ruby Gemstone Glitter Gloss so that it was splotchy. I removed the stencil and let it dry.

For the other elements of this project, I used the Waves Craft Die to cut out a red dragon spine design, which I distressed with Aged Mahogany Distress Oxide Ink. I also made a blue panel by blending Tumbled Glass & Salty Ocean Distress Oxide Ink together.

For my sentiment strip, I blended a white strip of cardstock entirely with Mustard Seed Distress Ink, splattered it with Fossilized Amber Distress Ink, and stamped the sentiment “Dishonor to the one who hurt you” from the Strength & Honor set.

I finished this card up by adhering some Sunset Shimmerz bits and adhering the card to an A2-sized base.

Strength & Honor Stamp Set
Retro Waves Stencil
Mandala Stencil
Pewter Glitter Gloss
Rainbow Sparkletz

For my final Strength & Honor project, I wanted to create a card featuring the male warrior from the set and the new Retro Waves Stencil (which is one of my new favorites after this card)!

I colored up my warrior in Copic Markers and set him aside.

Taking a piece of white cardstock, I blended Catherine Pooler Inks in the following order (top to bottom): Mandarin Spice, Rose Petals, Sugared Lavender. I spritzed the layer with water and let it dry.

Taking the Retro Waves Stencil, I placed it on top of this panel, and blended a solid layer of Black Soot Distress Ink. I cleaned off my stencil, sprayed a little bit of Pixie Spray, and placed it back onto the panel so it was just slightly offset from the Distress Ink application. I applied a solid layer of Pewter Glitter Gloss, removed the stencil, and set the panel aside to dry.

Justin Tip: I actually try to avoid Pixie Spray whenever I can. It does an amazing job at clinging to the panel. However, I just know that it gets really difficult to clean off all of the spray residue. However, I highly advise using Pixie Spray any time you are using an intricate stencil, or using Glitter Gloss, as it will help keep the Glitter Gloss in its designated areas!

For the badge behind the warrior, I blended die cut circle a solid layer of Bellini Catherine Pooler Ink. I spritzed with water and let dry. I then took the Mandala Stencil, placed it on top, and blended a layer of Mandarin Spice Catherine Pooler Ink. I framed this piece with a black circle die cut.

The sentiment is a strip of white paper, blended in Sugared Lavender Catherine Pooler Ink, and then uses the “You’re a Warrior” sentiment from Strength & Honor.

This project is finished off with some Rainbow Sparkletz pieces and it was adhered to an A2-sized card base!
