Kindred Stamps March Naughty Set- I Like Your Beaver

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Today I am sharing 2 projects using the March 2020 edition of the Kindred Stamps Naughty series! This cute, yet a little naughty, stamp set is called I Like Your Beaver. This stamp set contain this super adorable beaver character (which you’ll see that I colored it up in 2 different ways!), along with the following sentiments:

  • Are you a beaver?
  • ‘Cuz dam!
  • Have a dam (buildable)
    • Good Birthday
    • Good Day
  • I like your (buildable)
    • Wood
    • Beaver

For my first project using the I Like Your Beaver set, I made a fun interactive card using the “Are You A Beaver?” and “‘Cuz Dam!” sentiments.

For this card, I die cut a stitched 4.125″ x 5.375″ panel of white cardstock. I used the Forest Stencil to ink blend a tree-line using Distress Oxide Inks (Pine Needles and Forest Moss), and then used the mask that comes with the stencil to blend the sky (Tumbled Glass and Broken China).

Detour: When it comes to ink blending, I almost always use blending brushes because I find them easier to use for me than blending sponges. I have 1 brush for every color family (Reds- including Pinks, Oranges, Yellow, Greens, Blues, Purples, Browns & Blacks). If I am switching between colors within the same family, I always craft with a microfiber towel near me, and I’ll lightly brush onto the towel to remove excess ink from my brush. This is almost always effective, unless I’m switching to a super light color in my blend I’ve noticed that light blues and pinks are the issues). You want to be a bit more thorough when switching to a very light color so that you don’t worry about applying it darker than intended.

Next, I ink-blended the lake layer of the card. I started with a 4.125″ x 5.375″ panel of white cardstock and ink blended Distress Oxide Inks (Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean). I spritzed this with water to give it a speckled effect. After it was dried entirely, I die cut the layer with a stitched hillside die to give the lake a rounded effect.

For my damn, I die cut several birch trees from kraft cardstock. I ink blended the edges to give them a distressed look with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink. I then cut all my branches in half. I also die cut a stitched circle die in brown cardstock, trimmed off one of the edges, and used my bone folder to turn it into a flap. I die cut a small stitched rectangle from kraft cardstock for my sentiment.

To build my dam, I took each of the branches and started layering them in a somewhat rounded pile onto the large part of my circle flap. I used a brown cardstock because I knew there would be some gaps in areas where the branches wouldn’t cover, so I figured having a brown cardstock would give the dam some realistic depth. Once my dam was constructed the way that I wanted, I used my tape runner on the small side of the creased flap (where there wasn’t any branches) and adhered it down.

To finish my card, I stamped the “Are You a Beaver?” sentiment at the top in Black VersaClair ink, stamped the “‘Cuz Dam!” sentiment on the stitched kraft rectangle in the same black ink, adhered the rectangle under my dam so that it was nicely hidden, and mounted my beaver with foam tape! I also mounted the entire panel on an A2-sized piece of dark green cardstock, and then adhered it to an A2-sized card base!

For my 2nd project using the I Like Your Beaver set, I decided to make my no-line coloring debut! I colored up this beaver by stamping it with the Ink on 3 Fade Out Ink and colored them up with my Copic Markers, with a color guide below:

  • Beaver Fur (E55, E57, E59)
  • Beaver Snout (E31, E33, E34)
  • Nose & Feet (W6, W8)
  • Tail (W6, W8, W10)

I know that my no-line coloring can use a little refinement, but I was very happy with the way this turned out!

I also used something for this stamp that I haven’t in a very long time: a rubber stamp! I found this large wood grain rubber stamp at a Warehouse Sale a few months back for $3 and I couldn’t pass it up! I had tried to use it with it’s wood mount, and I was entirely unable to get a clean impression onto the paper (there were large gaps in the center that weren’t stamping). So, I did another first… I unmounted the stamp from the wood block! I sprayed the back with some Pixie Spray for a light tack. Now, I usually use my MISTI for all of my stamping, however, I still had another stamp platform on my desk that I rarely use (it still works ok, but I prefer my MISTI). I decided to break that stamp platform out to reduce the likelihood of my MISTI getting the Pixie Spray residue on it. I stamped my woodgrain stamp onto some kraft cardstock, and it looked great!

I die cut my woodgrain into a stitched 4.125″ x 5.375″ panel, and also used my guillotine cutter to cut a brown A2-sized panel. I mounted my woodgrain panel to my brown panel to give it a nice frame. I also made a sentiment strip using the kraft and brown cardstock to stamp the sentiment “I like your wood”. I adhered this towards the bottom of my card, and used foam tape to adhere my beaver. To finish this card off, I took some sequins from the Coffee Shop Shaker Pack (retired), and mounted the panel to an A2-sized card base!

I hope these projects sparked some inspiration for how to use the new I Like Your Beaver set! And be sure to check out the Kindred Stamps website for the other sets in their Naughty collection, along with all the new releases!

As always, thanks for stopping by and checking out my blog!

Happy Crafting!
