Before we jump into today’s project, I wanted to let you know that I sometimes use affiliate links to share my favorite products. Don’t worry, these links won’t cost you a dime – they’re just little crafty helpers behind the scenes that help support me if you use them to make a purchase! Let’s dive into today’s creative journey together!
Hello, friends! Today, I am sharing a colorful winter themed card that I created using the Birdie Friends in Winter Stencil and Die set! This squad of feathered friends is just too cute, and I love how easy it is to create a scene card with them!
Below is a list of products that I used to help this card come together!
Birdie Friends in Winter Die-n-Stencil Set
Winter Greetings Dies
Catherine Pooler Inks
Silver Holographic Sparkle Spots
White Acrylic Paint
I love how the birds in the Birdie Friends in Winter set have that soft no-line appearance, as I used the provided coordinating stencil in the bundle to ink blend them up. What’s great about the stencil is that there are color suggestions etched into the different sections, which makes your process of color selection so much simpler!
At first, I was overthinking the process of how I needed to ink blend these. The dies are solid, and you can’t see through them (think about how some outline dies, you’re able to peer through to line up your image). But I realized that I could use the die cut to cut out my shapes, and then pop the shapes back into the negative, fastened by some low tack tape behind the sheet of paper, and it made the ink blending a breeze!
For my inks, I went with my Catherine Pooler collection, and I decided that I wanted to make a dreamy wintery sky background. While the Party Inks are my typical choice with Catherine Pooler (y’all know I most often reach for vibrancy with my color choices), I felt that capturing that winter feel would be best achieved by pulling in the less vibrant Spa Inks. These inks are water reactive, so I was able to get some great bleach marks for the sky. And, since it’s a wintry card, I splattered some white acrylic paint for snow!
The most difficult part of my card was my sentiment. I love the Greetings Sentiment Collection by Pink & Main, because it provides a very pretty font that is versatile for different card feels. When purchasing word die cuts, I often lean towards those that offer the outline die to the sentiment as well. I initially tried to execute adhering my letters directly to my background, without the outline. My sentiment was not very centered. I got frustrated, and pulled all my die cut sentiment pieces off my panel, leaving a sticky liquid adhesive residue behind. I know you can use an adhesive eraser in many instances, however, I know that these erasers can also mess up paper that’s been ink-blended. Leaning towards the safer side, I decided to use the sentiment outline die, which helped keep my sentiment even, was super easy to ensure it was applied as centered as possible on my panel, and also helped cover up those adhesive spots my direct-to-panel adhesive method left behind! Crafting for me is a combination of playing both proactively and re-actively. I almost always start with my own idea (proactive), but then sometimes have to pivot if imperfections happen or an element isn’t working the way that I want (re-actively).
I finished my panel off by adhering some Silver Sparkle Spots from Trinity Stamps, and my card was completed!
