Before we jump into today’s project, I wanted to let you know that I sometimes use affiliate links to share my favorite products. Don’t worry, these links won’t cost you a dime – they’re just little crafty helpers behind the scenes that help support me if you use them to make a purchase! Let’s dive into today’s creative journey together!
Hello, friends! Today, I am sharing a quick blog post to show you an autumnal card that I created using the Pumpkin with Stem card by Waffle Flower Crafts! Usually, I would die cut an image like this from colored cardstock, and then ink blend over it. However, I thought it would be fun to use my Olo markers to color this up!
I grabbed a few different supplies to help bring this card together:
Pumpkin with Stem Die Set by Waffle Flower
Pumpkin Spice Stamp Set with Coordinating Die by Scrapbook.com
Olo Markers
Lime Green Hemp Twine by Lawn Fawn
Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink
Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Bronze Holographic Sparkle Spots by Trinity Stamps
For coloring up your die cuts, I think that it is most helpful to cut the shapes from your favorite alcohol marker friendly paper. Then, on the back side of the cut up paper sheet, place a few pieces of low-tack tape, such as Mint Tape, over the negative openings. This way, you can fit the die cut shapes back into the negatives and begin to color them with your Olo Markers! I love this method, especially with shapes like this pumpkin, because you CANNOT color outside the lines!
I also reached into my pre-made background stash and found this gorgeous gingham pattern that uses a retired stencil. There are so many fantastic Gingham stencils on the market that you could pull in, or simply grab another favorite print! When I pulled the print, the edges weren’t distressed, so I pulled in some Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink to add a little bit of a blended edge.
I popped on a sentiment from the Pumpkin Spice stamp set from Scrapbook.com, which I decided to stamp out in Vintage Photo ink onto a green cardstock, because I thought this card needed more pops of green. In that same spirit, I decided to add a lime green hemp twine bow as well!
Lastly, I thought the Bronze Holographic Sparkle Spots were a fantastic addition to help give this card that little bit of sparkle, and still play with the autumnal color palette!
I hope this card gives you a few fun ideas that you can pull in for your next die cut project! Whether it be seasonally-related, or just a card that you can give out any time of year, this technique is sure to come in handy!
