KS April 2020 Release- Plane Awesome

Hey Everyone!

It’s time again for another amazing Kindred Stamps Release! With everything going on in the world right now, I am so excited to share a little bit of crafty excitement with you all! So please fasten your seatbelts and leave your seat in the upright position, because we’re about to take off with the new Kindred Stamps set, Plane Awesome!

I’ve got 4 projects to share using the new Plane Awesome set, so let’s get started!

For my first project using Plane Awesome, I made a fun interactive card using the airplane stamp and the sentiment “You make my heart soar”.

This card is an interactive slider card that I made without any dies. so you can make one too!

First, I colored up my airplane with Copic Markers and fussy cut it out.

Next, I took a 5.375″ x 4.125″ piece of white cardstock and masked the top part of the cardstock (in landscape orientation) with some scrap paper. This left an open area on the bottom, which I blended Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Inks. I then took a 5.375″ x 1.25″ strip of charcoal cardstock, distressed the edges with Black Soot Oxide Ink, and adhered it to the bottom of the grassy panel.

Next, I took the Cloud & Grass stencil from the (retired) Part of a Pride Limited Edition Box and blended some clouds in the sky using Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink. I also stamped the sentiment “You make my heart soar” in Nocturne Versa Clair ink.

Now for the interactive slider element! This was actually really simple to do. Once I figured out where I wanted my plane to slide, I took a ruler and an exacto knife, and ran the knife against the ruler for straight lines, and cut out a long thin rectangle. I took the cut out part and set it to the side. Next, I took foam tape and doubled it up. I layered my tape on the underside of the slider cut out panel (I essentially just framed the 4 sides).

For the slider, I took a quarter (the currency, not any sort of crafty measurement), and put a foam tape rectangle on the quarter. I then removed the backing and pushed the foam tape up through the slider cut out, adhering the airplane onto it. I removed all the backing from my slider cut out panel’s foam tape, and adhered the panel to an A2-sized piece of navy cardstock! I then fit the small cut out rectangle back into the cut out and adhered it directly to the navy base.

I finished the project by adding a few sequins from past Kindred Stamps shaker pack and mounting it to an A2-sized card base!

For my second Plane Awesome project, I wanted to use the female pilot and female flight attendant with the sentiment “Will you be my co-pilot?”. I also wanted to use the flight wings badge included with the set!

First things first, I colored up my pilot and flight attendant with my Copic Markers, fussy cut them out and set them aside.

One thing I did with this set was a bit out of my comfort-zone was that I took a wreath builder stencil with the flight wings badge image, and stamped out an 8-point bade with it. I then colored in this badge with my Copic Markers YR21, YR24, YR27. I fussy cut this badge out, adhered it to navy cardstock, and fussy cut it out again with a little bit of a navy frame showing.

Next, I took an 4.125″ x 5.375″ piece of white cardstock, applied an anti-static embossing bag all over the panel, repeatedly stamped the flight wings in embossing ink, and heat embossed in gold powder. After the gold powder had entirely dried and set, I took my Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Re-inker, put a few drops onto my glass craft mat, added a spritz of water, mixed it up and splattered the ink onto my gold wing panel.

I matted my gold wing panel to an A2-sized piece of navy cardstock to frame it.

I took my large gold badge, and adhered my pilot and flight attendant directly on top. I them put foam tape on the back and adhered the badge and character element directly onto my card.

To finish this project off, I stamped my sentiment with Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Ink onto white cardstock, cut it into a strip, framed it with navy cardstock and adhered it with foam tape directly onto my card. I also adhered some sequins from a past Kindred Stamps shaker pack. I mounted the card to an A2-sized card base and was done!

For my 3rd and 4th projects with the Plane Awesome set, I made a coordinating card and envelope (which can totally be used together or separately).

First, let me talk you through my card. For this card, I was channeling those in-flight safety videos, and I just imagined a Design Team member getting on the intercom going “We know you have lots of choices when buying stamps, and we thank you for flying Kindred Air!”.

This card uses the male and female pilot from the Plane Awesome set, and the sentiment “Are you a pilot? Cause you’re plane awesome.” sentiment. It also uses the airplane as well, which I stamped the Kindred Stamps logo on from the Kindred Stampers set. I colored up each of these images in a purple palette (because, let’s be honest, a Kindred Stamps airplane would be purple) with my Copic Markers. I then fussy cut them out and set them aside.

Next, I took a 4.125″ x 5.375″ white cardstock panel, and used the Part of a Pride Grass & Cloud Stencil to blend a cloudy sky using Milled Lavender Distress Oxide Ink. I then adhered this purple cloudy panel to an A2-sized piece of purple cardstock.

I then used that same purple cardstock and heat embossed the sentiment in white powder, and cut it into a strip. I adhered it to a slightly thicker strip of patterned paper from my scrap stash (it’s a white, blue and purple camera patterned print). I adhered my 2 pilots directly onto my sentiment strip.

To finish the card off, I mounted the sentiment strip with characters and the airplane (separately) with foam tape. I also added some sequin embellishments. I mounted the card to an A2-sized card base and was done!

For the envelope that I paired with this card, I added a little bit of everything (and everything was of course purple).

I colored up the male flight attendant in a purple uniform using my Copic Markers, fussy cut him, and set him to the side.

I took a white envelope and used the Optical Illusion stencil to blend a purple ombré on the left side of the envelope (Milled Lavender, Wilted Violet, & Dusty Concord Distress Oxide Inks). I then stamped out the flight wings badge in the same colors along the stenciled edge, and one on the envelope flap too!

I then stamped the sentiment “Sit back, relax, and enjoy your birthday” in Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink, and adhered my flight attendant above the sentiment. To finish off the project, I also added some sequins for embellishment.

I also have a picture of both of the items together, so you can see how they coordinate!

A few notes about these 2 items coordinating. In the event of wanting to mail this card, I would recommend 1) stamping and coloring the flight attendant directly onto the envelope, and 2) not adding the sequins. This would most likely not hold up in the mail. Maybe look for some flatter embellishments that would work better!

Also, the envelope’s sentiment definitely implies this is a birthday card. Take advantage of all the wonderful sentiments included in your stamp sets to find one that fits the purpose of envelope card perfectly!
