KS Wacky Holiday- National BBQ Day

I don’t know about you all, but I’m really craving a social gathering lately. I feel that a BBQ at a friend’s house sounds perfect!

Today, I am super excited to be sharing the latest installment in the Kindred Stamps Wacky Holiday series: National BBQ Day (May 16th)!

What’s different about this set in comparison to past Wacky Holiday sets is that it is the very first 4×4 set in the series! The Wacky Holidays: National BBQ Day set has a grilling lady, a hat-wearing man with a plate, a grill (which can be colored up in SO many fun color possibilities), a burger, a kebob skewer, and a handful of punny and fun sentiments!

I have 2 projects to share using this set, so let’s see what I grilled up!

The first project I have using the National BBQ Day set is this fun pair of gift tags that I think would be so perfect to throw onto a wine bottle for a BBQ host gift!

I took a heart die cut from my stash, and die cut 2 hearts from white cardstock.

I also took the guy, girl, and a grill from the set, colored them up with my Copic Markers and fussy cut them I out. I set them to the side for when I was ready for them.

Next, I used the Lattice Stencil on top of each of the hearts to ink-blend a color combination that matched the colors I used when coloring up my characters using Distress Oxide Inks. The color palettes used are as follows:

Guy Heart (top to bottom): Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistachio & Peacock Feathers

Girl Heart (top to bottom): Mustard Seed, Carved Pumpkin & Picked Raspberry.

For the guy heart, I heat embossed the “I’ve bun thinking about you sentiment” in black powder. For the girl, I heat embossed the “you’re the flippin’ best” sentiment, also in black powder. I then adhered my characters and grill to the corresponding tag. I also adhered a few sequins from a past Kindred Stamps Shaker Pack for extra embellishment.

I also hole punched the tag on one of the “humps” of the heart (any advice for a better term?). I tied a ribbon so I could easily throw the tags on a bottle of wine. I liked the placement of the hole and ribbon, because I wanted the tag to hang a little lopsided!

For my 2nd National BBQ Day set project, I made a card using the plate-holding guy and the grill. As basic as it may sound, my inspiration for this project was ketchup and mustard! I colored up my images with Copic Markers, fussy cut them out, and set them to the side. I also made a sentiment strip with the “Well Done!” sentiment, heat embossed it in white powder, and set that aside as well.

For my background, I took a 4.125″ x 5.375″ piece of white cardstock and stamped the grill, burger and kebob skewers multiple times in a gray ink to make a background. I then took Barn Door and Mustard Seed Distress Oxide Ink, smushed them onto a glass mat, added a little but of water, and splattered the ink onto the card with a brush. Once dry, I adhered this panel to an A2-sized piece of red cardstock so there was a thin red frame.

To finish the card, I adhered my images to my sentiment strip, mounted the character and strips to the card with foam tape, and adhered a few sequins from a past Kindred Stamps Shaker Pack. And that’s my card!
