With everything going on in the world right now, I am so happy to share something fun and exciting with you right now! Today is the first day of Sneak Peaks for Kindred Stamps’ March Release week, and I am sharing a few projects I made with the new 4″ x 8″ set, Motel Family! This set has quickly become one of my favorites, and is packed with so many great characters and sentiments for various occasions!
This set will be releasing on the Kindred Stamps website this Friday, March 27th, at 8 AM PST!
Now, onto the Motel Family projects!
My first project features the sassy girl from Motel Family, with the sentiment “Love That Journey For You”.
For my background, I cut a 4.125″ x 5.375″ panel of white cardstock, and used embossing ink to stamp “LA” from the Doodle Uppercase set multiple times. Then, I heat embossed the “LA”s with white embossing powder. After the melted embossing powder cooled down, I used an emboss-resist technique to blend a pink ombré background from Distress Oxide ink (top to bottom: Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick & Picked Raspberry). I then spritzed the panel with water to get some speckles on my ombré background.
I mounted my ombré panel on a piece of plum cardstock. I then took a strip of light pink cardstock and heat embossed the sentiment “Love That Journey For You” in Penny Embossing Powder, and framed the sentiment on a strip of plum cardstock. I adhered my sentiment strip and sassy girl to my card panel with foam tape, and adhered a few sequins from a past Kindred Stamps Shaker Pack!
I mounted this card to an A2-sized card base and was finished!
For my 2nd project using Motel Family, I took the button-up guy and the fashion-forward fella and paired them with the sentiment “You’re Simply the Best”.
For this card, I took a 4.125″ x 5.375″ piece of black cardstock and the Hearts Stencil (from last month’s release). I sprayed Pixie Spray on the back of the stencil and lined it up on my black cardstock piece. I then used a Stencil Pal and spread Onyx Glitter Gloss (I believe this color is now retired, so I linked the Glitter Gloss general page). I removed my stencil, set my panel aside to dry, and immediately went to my sink to clean my stencil so the Glitter Gloss didn’t permanently stick to it.
Side note: Currently, all the Kindred Stamp Glitter Glosses are on sale, and I think they may possibly be making their way into retirement. There are a lot of really fun colors still available, so maybe check one out before they are gone for good! Some of my favorite options are: Gingerbread, Azure, Sunshine, Peridot & Electric Coral.
Back to the card!
Once dry, I mounted my Glitter Gloss panel to an A2-sized piece of charcoal cardstock. I took a strip of black cardstock and heat embossed the sentiment “You’re Simply the Best” in white powder, and framed the strip with another strip of black cardstock.
I adhered the guys directly onto the strip in a way that they were holding hands, and then adhered the guys and strip with foam tape to my card. I used a few black and dark gray sequins from a past Shaker Pack for embellishment and mounted my panel to an A2-sized card base!
For my 3rd Motel Family project, I took the 4 members of the Motel Family (left to right: the sassy girl, the business savvy dad, the mama with the drama, and the fashion-forward fella), and to make a scene card that made it look like they were traveling down a dirt road together with the sentiment “Warmest Regards”.
First, I diecut a few pieces: (1) stitched 4.125″ x 5.375″ rectangle in white cardstock, (2) 4.125″ x 5.375″ rectangles in green cardstock and then also die cut with a grassy hill die, and (1) stitched 4.125″ x 5.375″ rectangle in kraft cardstock.
I took a cloud stencil and ink blended a cloudy sky with Distress Oxide Inks (top to bottom: Spiced Marmalade, Dried Marigold, and Scattered Straw). Then, I distressed my grassy green cardstock pieces with Mowed Grass Distress Oxide Ink for a little bit of dimension. Once I figured out where I would be placing my grass, I hand-cut a dirt path from the kraft cardstock die cut, distressed the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink, and used a pen to add some speckles.
I then adhered down my grassy dies to my cloudy panel first, then my dirt road, and then the family directly on top.
I used black Versa Clair Nocturne Ink to stamp the sentiment “Warmest Regards” directly onto a white gap in the clouds. I adhered this panel to an A2-sized piece of charcoal cardstock, and then adhered the finished panel to an A2-sized card base!
For my 4th Motel Family project, I made a simple gift tag that is perfect for any shower present, especially if the mom-to-be enjoys a little sass. This project uses the mama with the drama with the buildable sentiment “congrats on the new bébé” (pronounced like “bay-bay”)
I diecut a stitched gift tag from white cardstock. I then placed the Lattice Stencil (from last month’s release) over it and ink blended a pink to gray ombré using Distress Ink (top to bottom: Worn Lipstick, Weathered Wood, Hickory Smoke).
I heat embossed the sentiment “congrats on the new bébé” in white embossing powder on black cardstock, and cut each individual word. I adhered my strips onto my gift tag, along with my mama with the drama. I also adhered a few sequins from a past shaker pack for embellishment.
To finish the tag, I punched a hole at the top and tied a piece of pink polka dot ribbon
For my final Motel Family project, I wanted to bring another element to this set! Almost like when 2 fandoms merge! This set uses all 6 characters from the set, and I colored them all up in fairly monochromatic looks (red, blue, yellow, green, purple, and black & white)… See where I’m going with this?
For this project, I needed something a little larger, so I made this an A7-sized card. I cut (1) 4.875″ x 7″ piece of gray cardstock, (1) 4.875″ x 7″ piece of tan cardstock & (1) 4.875″ x 7″ piece of kraft cardstock. I was going for a foyer scene, so follow me on this card journey.
On the craft cardstock, I stamped a woodpattern in gray ink to make a hardwood floor sort of effect. I then cut this cardstock down to the dimensions I needed. I distressed the bottom edge of my floor piece with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink.
I then trimmed down my piece of tan cardstock to the height I wanted and distressed the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink. This would be my foyer’s wood walls.
For my piece of gray cardstock, I took the Skinny Plaid Stencil to make some wallpaper. I blended Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide Ink over the stencil to create a light gray on dark gray plaid. Note: I did have to adjust my stencil part way through since my panel was longer than 6″. This was going to be my upstairs walls, so i figured out where my tan cardstock would meet it and distressed the edges in Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink.
Next, I made the stairs. This was actually .5″ strips of craft cardstock (same as the floor), with each strip, going from the bottom up, was .25″ shorter in length. I distressed the edges of the stairs in Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink for some dimension. I then adhered the strips onto one another and had a solid stair element.
Now it was time to put the card together. I adhered my tan cardstock panel onto my gray cardstock panel, and then adhered my floor panel onto the tan cardstock panel. I took the stair piece and put foam tape on it to give it a little bit of dimension. I adhered the yellow suit business dad at the top, his mama with the drama wife in red below and on the same step as his sassy daughter in blue. I then adhered the green button-up shirt guy, purple fashion forward fella, and black and white wearing snarky friend on the wood floor.
I heat embossed the sentiment “I’d Get Murdered First For You” on a black cardstock strip, trimmed it, framed it with charcoal cardstock, and adhered it to my card with foam tape. I mounted the card to an A7-sized card base, and added some black Nuvo drops for embellishment, and set the final result aside to dry!
