Kindred Stamps February 2020 Release- Family Additions

Hey all! If you’ve been following along with my blogs, you know that one of my favorite times of the month is Kindred Stamps Release Week! Today, I’m featuring a brand new stamp set that is just pregnant with possibilities: Family Additions!

Family Additions is a 4 x 4 set that includes the following images:

  • A pregnant woman
  • A baby
  • A small bow

This set is also jam packed with some amazing sentiments, including:

  • Congratulations
  • On Your (Buildable Sentiment)
    • Adoption
    • New Bundle
    • Multiples
  • Family doesn’t have to match
  • After every storm there is a rainbow
  • Welcome to the world
  • Milk Snuggle Nap Repeat (which has some of the cutest images included)

Below, I have a few projects that I’m so excited to share with you today!

For my first project using the new Family Additions set, I have an A7-sized card that features the sentiment “Family doesn’t have to match”. For this project, I wanted my Kindred people to contain every color of the rainbow, and really went all out with the color palette. I colored up my pregnant woman in pink, and then colored up 6 babies, all wearing different color onesies. I also wanted to use a lot of skin tones in this project, so you’ll see not one of the images matches another, which echoes this sentiment perfectly!

For my background, I took the Skinny Plaid Stencil and made a rainbow ombré using my Distress Oxide Inks (Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Salty Ocean & Wilted Violet). Now, the Kindred Stamps Stencils are 6″ x 6″, so they don’t entirely fill the 7″ side of an A7 card. I remembered that Design Team Member Lynnea created an amazing slim card a few weeks back using the I’m Wishing and Mine Workers set, along with the Candy Cane Stencil, and repositioned the stencil part way through to stretch the entire length of the card! You can watch her video on the Kindred Stamps YouTube Channel here! I decided to use the same technique with the Skinny Plaid Stencil and got a perfect coverage across the 7″ side!

Detour: with this stencil technique, it’s important to remember that not all stencils will work perfectly with it. You’re going to want to pick a stencil with a repeating pattern. This way, it will look seamless when you reposition your stencil. Some other Kindred Stamps Stencils that would work really well with this technique are: Dragon Scales, Comic Dots, Mermaid Scales, Country Quilt, Christmas Sweater, Candy Cane, Heart and Dots, Tiles, Damask & Chevron. Once you look at these stencils, you’ll get the gist as to why these work the best!

I did leave a strip on the bottom of my card panel blank, and I used my MISTI to stamp the sentiment “Family doesn’t have to match” in the lower right corner with Versa Clair Nocturne Ink. I then adhered all of my Kindred people with foam squares and mounted the card to an A7-sized card base. To finish my card, I then took some sequins from the Party Confetti Shaker Pack (one of the few shaker packs still currently available on the Kindred Stamps website) and adhered them to my card!

For my 2nd project, I wanted that adorable sentiment “Milk Snuggle Nap Repeat” from Family Additions and make a tag out of it. My initial thought with this project was that these would make perfect tags for Baby Shower gifts!

First, I colored up 2 babies from Family Additions: 1 in a blue onesie, and the other in a pink. I took an A2 sized panel of white cardstock from my scrap bin and made sure I could fit 2 tags on it. Next, I die-cut 2 stitched scalloped circle dies out from this panel.

I then used my Long Hair Stencil to apply Distress Oxide Ink to my tags. For one, I used Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean. For the other, I used Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry.

Next, I heat embossed the sentiment “Milk Snuggle Nap Repeat) on each tag in the same spot using black powder.

Then, I adhered one baby to each tag with foam squares, and also used some sequins for extra embellishment.

I punched a hole at the top of the tag and tied a ribbon through it, and that gave me my tags!

One thing that I thought was so great about these tags is that they were quick! It would be so easy to mass produce these tags for a baby shower event, or just make a couple to keep on hand when you’re giving a gift to a new parent!

For my 3rd project using Family Additions, I had an idea that really wasn’t baby-centric at all. I loved the sentiment “After every storm there is a rainbow”, and think it’s a great reminder to everyone to not give up.

Now, this sentiment includes the word “rainbow”, so my color palette was very easily selected for me!

I used 7 different color Distress Oxide Inks for this project. Because I was using so many inks, I wanted to use one ink in its entirety before moving on to my next color. So follow me along this process as it may seem a little out of order at first.

I knew I wanted to create a vertical rainbow, and a panel that had clouds on it. So, I took 2 A2-sized panels of white cardstock. I designated 1 for my rainbow, and the other for my background clouds. I started with red (Candied Apple), and ink blended the 5.5″ size edge of one panel until I had at least .25″ of solid ink coverage. I then used my paper trimmer to cut a .25″ strip of red ink-blended cardstock (dimension is .25″ x 5.5″). Then, without re-inking my blending brush, I used the Cloud and Grass Stencil (part of the retired Part of a Pride Limited Release Box), and applied a layer of red clouds at the top of my other A2 panel.

Detour: The reason I didn’t re-ink my blending brush is that I wanted the clouds to have a softer look to them and not be super vibrant. Blending Brushes always seem to retain just a little bit of ink, so I knew that I didn’t need to re-ink them and would still get that soft color I’m looking for!

I then repeated the process 6 more times, using the colors in the following order: Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Salty Ocean, Shaded Lilac, Wilted Violet. For my cloud panel, I would clean my stencil with a microfiber cloth, flip it over for a varied pattern, and move it down a little more than the previous application. I ended up with 7 .25″ x 5.5″ strips and a panel full of rainbow clouds!

To give my rainbow a little shimmer, I placed my strips lined up together on this piece of paper I keep to the side if I’m ever going to make a mess. I took some Fun Stampers Journey Sparkle Silk and splattered it all over the rainbow strips to give it some glitz. I set it aside to dry.

I wanted my card to have a framed look, so I used a stitched rectangle die-cut to get my cloud panel down to a “Slightly-less-than” A2-Sized. I used a different stitched rectangle die cut to get an A2-sized panel of light blue cardstock (Seaglass by Gina K).

Next, I took a piece of white cardstock from my scrap bin that was about 4.25″ tall and 2″ wide. I adhered each of my colored strips in ROYGBIV order, with a small white gap in-between. I then trimmed excess cardstock off the ends to make it look uniform.

I also die cut a stitched cloud on white cardstock that would fit my sentiment. I placed the rainbow and cloud on my cloud panel to figure out where I wanted it, and then adhered my rainbow with my Tape Runner XL. There was a little bit of excess rainbow that extended off the top of the panel, so I trimmed it off.

For my cloud, I hadn’t cleaned off my purple-designated blending brush yet, so I was able to get a soft Wilted Violet color by lightly brushing the edges. I then used Versa Clair Nocturne Ink and stamped my sentiment onto the cloud. After it was dried, I adhered my cloud with foam squares into its position.

I mounted my cloud panel to my light blue panel to give it a frame. I then used some more Party Confetti Shaker Pack sequins for extra embellishment.

For my Family Additions final project, I wanted to make one that is very close to home. My husband and I are becoming Uncles (again) the week after Kindred Stamps Release week, and I wanted to make a card celebrating our new niece, Harper!

For this card, I colored up a baby in a pink onesie, several many pink bows, and Doodle Lowercase letters to spell out “harper”. I cut all of these out with my Brother Scan N Cut.

I took a 4″ x 5.25″ panel and blended a light pink quilted background using the Country Quilt Stencil and Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Ink. I then adhered a bow at each quilted intersection. I mounted this panel to an A2-sized piece of baby girl safety pin patterned paper.

Next I began working on my sentiment strips. I cut 2 strips of light pink cardstock. For the longest strip, I adhered “harper” evenly spaced with my Thermoweb Tape Runner XL so the letters hung over the sides a bit. For the smaller strip, I stamped the sentiment “welcome to the world”. I adhered both strips toward the bottom of the panel with foam tape. I took foam tape to the back of my baby girl, and adhered her to sit above “harper” and so her bow lined up perfectly with the other bows in the background.

I finished up by adding a couple sequin embellishments from the Party Confetti Shaker Pack, and I was done!

I really hoped my projects sparked some adorable inspiration for your next projects!
