All About the Ps Blog Hop Pi Day Card

Hey Everyone!

I’m back today with another fun card for this week’s installment of the What to Make When You Hibernate Blog Hop!

This week’s theme is “All About the P’s”, so get ready for some fun Pi Day and St. Patrick’s Day projects!

I was a little surprised when I was going through my stamp sets to realize I had VERY slim pickings when it came to these 2 holidays (I believe I only had 1 set for Pi Day, and nothing for St. Patrick’s Day). I had remembered that Lawn Fawn had their Cutie Pie set, which I had wanted a while back, and thought this was a fantastic excuse to buy it!

Detour: Lawn Fawn $4 mini stamp sets are some of my absolute favorite things to purchase. When you’re in a pinch for a card, it takes the guess work out of piecing images and sentiments together. The stamps are also so very cute, as always, and can be easily mashed up together to create projects with lots of images!

I wanted to just overwhelm my card with pies, and make sure there was a fun background to match. So, on an A2-sized panel, I ended up stamping my Cutie Pies 24 times! I then colored up my pies in the following Copic Marker Colors:

  • Pie Crust: E53, E55, E57
  • Pie Tin: N0: N2: N4
  • Purple Filling: V6, V9
  • Blue Filling: B02, B04
  • Pink Filling: RV14, RV17
  • Orange Filling (Only Winky Face Pie): YR04, YR07

I did end up stamping 1 extra pie with a winky face, and cut them out and set to the side. I knew I wanted this pie to have a little of it’s own attention, so I took my Wink of Stella Glitter Brush Pen and added some shimmer.

Using my Brother Scan and Cut, along with full-back adhesive Post-Its, I cut out 30 pie masks (I wanted a couple extra incase any cutting went wonky). I then applied the masks over each of my pies.

For my background, I wanted to select a color palette that reflected the colors of most of the pie fillings I chose. I used my Picket Fence Studios Life Changing Blending Brushes to ink blend my Ranger Ink Distress Oxide Inks in the following order, from top to bottom: Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves & Salty Ocean. One thing that I loved about this ombre is that it skips orange on the color wheel, however by blending the Mustard Seed and Picked Raspberry together, you do get an orange area in that blend!

Before removing my masks, I took some Fun Stampers Journey Sparkle Silk and splattered it over my card for some shimmer. Once dry, I removed all my masks and my face turned into that emoji that has hearts for eyes! However, my masks were not perfect and I had some white gaps. So I took Copic Multiliner and filled in the white the best I could. This was a fun trick that I’m sure isn’t new to crafting, but it was new to me and I felt so clever doing it!!

Next, I began assembling the final parts of my card. I trimmed down my A2 pie panel to a 4.125″ x 5.375 measurement, and then adhered it with my Thermoweb Tape Runner XL onto an A2-sized panel of Brutus Monroe Raven Cardstock. I then took the sentiment “hi cutie pie” and heat embossed it in Brutus Monroe Alabaster Embossing Powder on a Raven cardstock strip, let it dry for a few seconds to set, and mounted it onto a fuchsia cardstock from my scrap bin. I took foam tape and placed the sentiment in the lower right area of my card.

To finish this card, I took my extra winky face pie and put some foam tape on the back of him. I selected a pie directly above the sentiment on my main card panel, and placed the pie directly on top of it. This way, I have 1 pie that is standing out on the panel!

And that’s my card!

We’ve got loads of fun projects lined up for you to check out, so please take a moment to hop on over to these other creators blogs and see what they’ve made!

You can also check out some of our projects on Instagram too!

I’ve also double dipped on this card and submitted it into the Lawn Fanatics Challenge #70: Lots of Love! I felt that this card captured so many colors that are included in the challenge inspiration palette, and hey, there are lots of pies, which I’d love! 😛

Thanks for reading, and happy crafting!

Justin
