Have a Dapper (Sun)Day Card

Hello and Happy Sunday, All!

Since I’ve taken the dive into card making, I’ve learned that there are a few things that I dread:

  1. Accidentally smudging a colored image.
  2. Not letting my Nuvo Drops dry and then accidentally smearing them on my card.
  3. Letting a stamp set sit on my wishlist long enough that it sells out and becomes retired.

And #3 is something I want to focus on today.

This card uses the Park Cuties set from Kindred Stamps, which I snagged before it retired a few months back, thankfully. I usually don’t like to blog with sets that are no longer available, because it really doesn’t give you the opportunity to be inspired with what you can do with the stamps.

Well, until Friday January 10th, the Park Cuties set is out of the Kindred Stamps vault, along with a few others, so I thought it would be the PERFECT chance to blog about it!

Detour: Now, I love this set because it reminds me of one of my most favorite places on earth. I’ve used this set once before to make a wedding card for one of my best friends, and have since tucked it away (because it’s not like I’ve been able to contain myself to not order more stamp sets lately… haha).

I colored up my castle and my little dapper barbershop quartet with the following colors using Copic Markers:

  • Castle Blue: B04, B32, B21
  • Castle Gray: C00, C0, C3
  • Castle Yellow: Y11, Y15, Y17
  • Dapper Guys Skin: E0000, E00, E04, E11
  • Dapper Brown Hair: E71, E74, E79
  • Dapper Ginger Hair: YR14, YR16, YR27
  • Dapper Blonde Hair: E40, E42, E43
  • Dapper Black Hair: W4, W6, W8
  • Dapper Green: G02, G05, G07
  • Dapper Orange: YR02, YR04, YR07
  • Dapper Blue: B00, B02, B04
  • Dapper Purple: V04, V06, V09
  • Dapper Straw Hat: E33, E51, E53
  • Dapper White Shirts: W0
  • Dapper Shoes: W8, W10

After coloring, I used my Brother Scan N Cut to cut my images out and set them aside.

I took a piece of white paper, and trimmed it to 4.75″ x 6.75″. I used the Forest Stencil and stretched a line of trees across the bottom of the long edge of my white paper with Pine Needles and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Inks. Now, I did have to move the stencil after my first application, as it wasn’t long enough, so I could get one line of trees across the entire 6.75 inches.

Next, I masked my trees and began to blend the sky. Now, I haven’t found a combination of Distress Oxide Inks to give me the brightest of blue skies, but I have found lately that I’m really happy with using Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Stormy Sky Distress Oxides! So I blended those together.

I wanted to use the sentiment “have a dapper day” on my card, because it is so perfect with these dapper fellas! Before adhering my castle and the guys, I placed them where I wanted on the card, lined up my sentiment (it’s a buildable one), and used my MISTI to apply Brutus Monroe Embossing Ink. I then used Brutus Monroe Alabaster White Embossing Powder and applied heat to emboss it.

I had a piece of charcoal gray paper in my scrap bin, so I trimmed it down to a .5″ x 7″ piece, and adhered it at the bottom of my scene to create a ground. Since I cut it a little longer than the panel, I trimmed the edges so it fit!

Then, I adhered my castle with my Thermoweb Tape Runner XL. I then used foam squares to adhere my guys. I wanted to use foam squares on my guys and not on the castle to help create a little bit of depth.

I then took my finished panel and adhere it to an A7 sized piece of Gina K Designs Soft Stone Cardstock.

I adhered my card to an A7 Card Base and paired it with a Paper Source Luxe Gray A7 Envelope and a navy paper with rainbow glitter liner.

And that’s my card! I hope you picked up an idea or 2 that inspires a future project of yours! Also, if you’re a scrapbooker, I can think of some really fun vacation layouts using this set, or even some planner layouts!

Happy Crafting!

Justin
